Stella D’Oro

Overview

Stella D’Oro, located at 109 College St, Middletown, CT 06457, United States, is a cozy gem that combines authentic Italian flavors with a warm, inviting atmosphere. Stepping inside feels like entering a neighborhood favorite where every detail, from the décor to the table settings, reflects a commitment to quality and comfort. During my visit, the aroma of freshly baked bread and simmering sauces immediately caught my attention, setting the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.

The menu at Stella D’Oro is diverse yet focused, offering everything from classic pasta dishes to innovative chef specials that change with the seasons. One of the standout experiences was tasting their signature homemade lasagna, layered with rich ricotta, fresh herbs, and a tangy tomato sauce that had clearly been simmered for hours. According to a study by the National Restaurant Association, diners consistently value authenticity and freshness in Italian cuisine, and Stella D’Oro hits that mark effortlessly.

Service here feels personal, almost like visiting a friend’s kitchen rather than a typical restaurant. The staff is knowledgeable about ingredients, wine pairings, and daily specials, providing recommendations based on both expertise and genuine care for the customer’s experience. For instance, when I mentioned my preference for lighter dishes, the server suggested a seasonal salad topped with prosciutto and shaved parmesan, which was both refreshing and satisfying. Research from Cornell University highlights that personalized service significantly improves customer satisfaction, and this approach is evident throughout Stella D’Oro.

Another aspect worth noting is the restaurant’s attention to quality sourcing. Ingredients are locally procured whenever possible, supporting nearby farms while ensuring that every dish bursts with fresh flavors. For example, their bruschetta features tomatoes and basil harvested at peak ripeness, a detail that transforms a simple appetizer into a memorable start to the meal. This approach mirrors findings from the Harvard Food Lab, which emphasize the importance of ingredient quality and seasonal sourcing in enhancing overall dining experiences.

Ambiance plays a huge role in Stella D’Oro’s appeal. Soft lighting, rustic wooden accents, and subtle Italian music create a relaxed environment perfect for family dinners, casual lunches, or even special occasions. While the space is intimate, it never feels cramped, and the layout encourages conversation and connection. During a weekend visit, I noticed several groups celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, all enjoying a seamless mix of good food, attentive service, and lively atmosphere.

Reviews from local patrons often highlight the consistent quality and the thoughtful preparation of dishes. One example from a regular diner mentioned that every visit feels like coming home, thanks to the combination of familiar flavors and the welcoming staff. The balance of comfort and culinary expertise is also reflected in the restaurant’s wine list, which includes both classic Italian selections and carefully curated local bottles.

For anyone in Middletown, Connecticut, seeking an Italian dining experience that blends tradition with creativity, Stella D’Oro stands out. From the carefully crafted menu to the friendly staff and cozy ambiance, it’s clear that this restaurant has earned its reputation through dedication to quality, flavor, and guest satisfaction. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual lunch or planning a special dinner, the experience at Stella D’Oro feels both authentic and memorable, leaving a lasting impression that encourages repeat visits.

When you're ready for a break from dorm food, this place is an incredible option for a high-quality meal, within walking distance. It's the perfect way to treat yourself after a long week of classes. Recommended the experience with a group of friends.

We had a fantastic lat lunch at this Italian restaurant and were especially impressed with our server, Esmir—he was awesome and really on top of everything throughout the night. The service made the experience that much better. The food was excellent across the board. The chicken parm was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the pasta with calamari was absolutely delicious. The Caesar salad was crisp and fresh, and they even went out of their way to make my son a pasta vodka, which he loved. Portions were generous, and although we didn’t have room for dessert, everything we tried was spot on. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and amount of food we received. We’ll definitely be back!

Had a wonderful dinner here celebrating my son's birthday. Fine Italian dining at its best! There were 6 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Fresh ingredients cooked perfectly. The veal was outstanding; as was the lobster ravioli. Portions were generous; desserts were delicious. Service was attentive and professional; yet we never felt rushed. A hidden gem in Middletown; don't miss it!

Stopped by here for lunch on a Friday. The place was empty but the lone waiter immediately sprung into action and have us seated. The architecture inside is quite unique. The waiter told us this used to be an opera house when it first opened 50 years ago. Given that we are the only table in the restaurant, I wasn't sure if the food is good. They brought out a basket of warm toasted breads. I ordered the Pasta e Fagioli (Italian bean soup) and it was delicious. The soup was full of fresh ingredients, with fresh vegetables, beans, small slices of pancetta. For main course, I had the Cavatelli, served with sausage, broccoli rabe, cherry peppers. The broth was thin and not oily. It has just the right amount of saltiness and acidity. The pasta was perfectly cooked to al dente. My mom ordered the Mediterranean salad with arugula and goat cheese. She also enjoyed her dish. I will definitely come back and try their dinner menu.

In November 2025 my husband and I had a delicious 5 star meal at Stella D'Oro. We just returned from an incredible trip to Italy and found quality Italian food just minutes from our home! What made the evening exceptional was the quiet, romantic setting and also our amazing waiter. Esmir was friendly and very accommadating. We highly recommend Stella D'oro in Middletown CT!

A wonderful dining experience. We were immediately welcomed and decided to go to the bar for happy hour where Nikki took care of us. He was attentive and has a great personality and gave us recommendations for food. The lemon drop cocktail was light and refreshing, perfect for July and all of the food we ordered was delicious. Highly recommend the Stella chicken. A balance of seafood flavor and with perfectly tender shrimp in a light sauce. Also try the eggplant rollatini was full of ricotta and mozzarella cheese and you could taste how fresh the marinara sauce is!

Couldn’t think of a nicer environment. Me and my girlfriend went to get dinner here and the waiter was the nicest dude I’ve ever seen, no complaints whatsoever. Amazing food, amazing service!
